Ankylos Congress 2017

Ankylos Congress 2017: More than 30 years of success in Central Eastern Europe

More than 300 participants celebrated over 30 years of success with the Ankylos system by Dentsply Sirona Implants

From May 26th to May 27th, 2017, over 300 practitioners from more than 20 countries joined Dentsply Sirona Implants to celebrate over 30 years of Ankylos®. The congress offered an exciting mixture of lectures and workshops with practical hands-on exercises, all revolving around the congresses’ main topic “More than 30 years of Ankylos – The solution for past, present and future treatment challenges”. Participants had the opportunity to deepen their practical implantological know-how with lectures by experienced trainers and speakers. Aside from gaining knowledge, the aim of the congress was to encourage attendees to put those new insights into practice – for their own and their patient’s benefit.

Ankylos®: A combination of tradition and progress

Vienna is an old city with a long tradition of hosting congresses that usually showcase the newest innovations. It is therefore the perfect location to celebrate an implant system that combines tradition with progress. As one of the first implant systems with a self-locking conical internal connection, the system has a long tradition, but has continuously been improved within the last three decades to fit into the digital workflow of modern dentistry. Although it has been around for a while, it can be integrated in all modern therapy concepts – from immediate implant placements to progressive threads.
The congress started on Friday morning with concept workshops where participants had the opportunity to freshen up their surgical knowledge of the TissueCare concept. The second workshop focused on the SmartFix system and its prosthetic solutions for immediate restorations. A meet the expert seminar about the digital workflow with Ankylos and Atlantis abutments rounded up the morning program. Prof. Dr. Markus Hengstschläger started the official program with a guest lecture on medical genetics and its implication for dentistry. Congress Chair Dr. Paul Weigl guided through the two-days-event by stressing out the importance of this year’s program: “Ankylos has been a proven implant system for over 30 years, but it has progressed to meet future requirements of modern, innovative treatment concepts. The wide-ranging lecture program is intended to create a symbiosis of science and practice to show the continuous development of the system over the years.”
The opening speech was followed by a compact overview of innovations in clinical application, state-of-the-art treatment concepts, the technological strengths of the system and current scientific approaches. The focus of the first session was on the innovations within the last 30 years, offering insights into complex cases solved with the treatment concept and the basic rationale for choosing an implant system. Dr. Karsten Wagner officially welcomed everyone in his new function as Global Director Platform Implant Systems Ankylos/Xive: “The combination of tradition and continuous progress has made the integration of the Ankylos system into digital dentistry possible. Our aim is to strengthen the position of Ankylos worldwide and to extract the importance of proven technology.” In the afternoon, lectures were dedicated to established practices regarding control and maintenance. The second day was all about digital implant solutions, the implementation into a digital workflow and best practice examples.

Celebrating innovation with the Ankylos® Poster Award 2017

Following the official congresss, participants experienced an extraordinary evening event at the Vienna Technical Museum, during which this year’s winners of the Ankylos Poster Award were announced. The award is dedicated to innovative practitioners who helped improve the Ankylos system based on their experience, feedback and therapeutic innovations. To enter the competition, practitioners had to present their most innovative case in form of a poster.
